Philip Oshiro has extensive experience working as a creative director, art director and senior designer for West Coast based corporations, start-ups and advertising agencies, as well as design and marketing firms. Known primarily for his B2C and B2B work, Oshiro has been a solid performer in the publishing, automotive, entertainment, real estate, medical/dental device and food industries.
Philip is a good quick study and possesses the ability to comprehend complex concepts and translate them into easy-to-understand visual communication pieces.
People often ask about his logo. Is it a coffee cup ring? Is it like an ink blot test?
It’s a brush painted, incomplete circle, called an enso. An enso is a Zen brush calligraphy exercise. For some, the inside of the circle represents the self and the area outside, the world. It's often painted as a broken circle to represent the integration between the self and the universe. Zen monks are known to paint one every day as a pulse check to see where they are at that moment in time. When evolving and changing, there should be some sort of assessment, as well as a call to action. Today we're living in challenging times – practically everything is being re-imagined, re-engineered, or questioned – so it's important to remain flexible.
Mr. Oshiro currently works and resides in Torrance, California.
